NSW:O'Farrell to help with power hike pain

New South Wales Premier BARRY O'FARRELL says he has a three-point plan to tackle rising
power prices .. and he feels enormous sympathy for people who will struggle to pay the
next round of hikes of some 18 per cent.

The price hikes mean between 230 and 320 dollars extra a year for most consumers.

Officials have partly blamed state-run network costs and the federal government's Renewable
Energy Target.

Mr O'FARRELL says he already raised the issue of compensation for the federal government's
RET program with Prime Minister JULIA GILLARD yesterday .. and rebates of up to 250 promised
during the election campaign .. will be paid to some.

And .. a capital expenditure review for the state-owned power network will also be
undertaken to determine if there was any gold-plated spending.
