NSW: Carr says arson a likely cause of bushfire crisis =2

Mr Carr also launched a bushfire appeal today to ensure people who lost their homeswould continue to receive the one-off $10,000 emergency benefit from the government.

"We established in the last bushfire season a big appeal, people were very, very generous,"

he said.

"Out of that fund came the $10,000 immediate assistance to people who lost their houses.

"We've just about run out so we will be activating a new bushfire appeal, we'll bekickstarting it with a government donation and that will enable us of continuing (that)practice ... for people who effectively lose everything."

Mr Carr said anyone whose homes had been destroyed or damaged could access assistancefrom the Department of Community Services in the form of emergency cash and accommodation.
