NSW: NSW government sacks Maclean rainforest trust over bats

The New South Wales government has sacked the trust board of the Maclean rainforest reserve
over its handling of a battle with a neighbouring school that was bothered by bats.

Land and Water Conservation Minister RICHARD AMERY removed the six-member board after the
colony was not removed before the beginning of the school term early this month.

Students boycotted Maclean High School for the first two days of the school term, saying
they refused to deal with the noise, smell and bat droppings that the colony created.

A spokeswoman for Mr AMERY says the trust board has been dismissed after local Labor member
HARRY WOODS asked the minister to replace it with a departmental administrator.
